MY STORY

Owner of Ho Made Woods, Alex Ho

Ever since I was a kid, I've loved working with my hands and building things. I studied Architecture and Construction Management in college, then spent years managing commercial construction projects for a general contractor. I liked seeing things get built — but I missed actually building them myself.

In 2011 I made a switch and became a personal trainer, a career I still love today. But the itch to create never went away.

It all came to a head when I became a father. I wanted my kids to be able to work out alongside me, but I didn't want to hand a toddler real weights — and I didn't love the plastic toy options out there either. So I built a set of wooden dumbbells in my garage, sized and weighted just for little hands. Friends and family started asking for their own. That small project became Ho Made Woods.

What started with dumbbells has grown into something much bigger. Today I design and build cutting boards, bowls, furniture, wall art, and fully custom commissions — every piece shaped from logs, reclaimed cutoffs, or lumber sourced from local Denver mills. For me, the craft isn't just the building. It's the back-and-forth with a client, figuring out exactly what they're picturing, and then making something that's never existed anywhere else.

Every piece is designed and built by hand, right here in my garage shop in Denver, CO.
